Decisions
While doing the worksheet on the different parts of the brain and how we use them while driving, one area really intrigued me. I found out that the frontal and prefrontal lobes (the areas that are used in decision making and recognizing consequences) aren't fully developed until we are about 25. To me, this means that we shouldn't have to make college and career decisions until we are about that age and know exactly what we want to do and what would be the best for us. I mean, it's a big decision and will haunt us forever. If we make the wrong choice because our brains simply aren't full developed, it's not going to be good. That is why I have decided that I am going to live at my parents house until that time. (ok, so not really, but it's worth a shot) :) Who's with me?

This post made me laugh. I would love to live with my parents forever, but a time comes when things need to happen. If you would live with your parents that long, you would be somewhat needing a life. lol no offense intended. For sure though I agree with the big decision when your mind isn't fully developed, but sadly thats not how it works. We would be waiting to make a decision for more than a 1/4 of your life.
ReplyDeletepsha. I wouldn't mind not having a social life for 1/4 of my life. jk. I think I would go crazy. we are social beings and are intended for socialization.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tom that there is a time appropriate for change, and in college we cans still rely on our parents a bit, but I also agree with you. By time we graduate college, we are about 22-23 (unless you're going past a 4-year degree.) At that point, we STILL aren't fully developed! Also, if this is all true, why would anyone want to harm their brain by drinking even AT legal age? Should we risk driving when our brains may not be ready? Can we be trusted with big decisions? How many marriages before age 25 last? Things to think about....
